Global Citizenship is the belief that we are all part of a global community, and our positive actions at home can impact people all around the world.

Global Citizenship Education at LYCS

LYCS delivers GCE programmes to hundreds of people throughout LYCS and the wider NEIC community, focusing on social justice issues that affect the local area, the ways in which we can take action, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Explore Our GCE Programmes and Workshops

The LYCS GCE team provide a wide variety of programmes that help our learners explore local and global injustice and inequality issues, and to create positive change through taking informed action.

GCE Programmes in LYCS

Through training and dedicated GCE programmes within LYCS, our GCE team ensures that GCE is a key part of life at LYCS.

Board and Staff Training

Our GCE team provide regular training to our Board and staff members to help bring GCE into all aspects of life in LYCS.

Gaisce Programme with CTC

For the past two years our GCE team has been helping CTC learners achieve their Gaisce President’s Award. Along with their personal and physical skills, the LYCS Gaisce Programme includes a 26 week GCE programme that explores social justice issues in an active, participatory way.

Stained Glass and Art SDG Project

Over the past two years our Adult Ed Art classes have been creating beautiful artwork based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and have even been displayed in the Hugh Lane gallery!

Adult Ed GCE Drama Group

In 2024 our Adult Ed Drama Group won the GCE Aontas Star Award for their incredible original play Threads, based on life and social justice issues in the inner city today.

GCE in the Wider Community

LYCS delivers exciting, interactive programmes with other groups in the local area.

GCE Leadership Programme

Our GCE Leadership Programme explores social injustice in local communities, empowers learners to see themselves as leaders in their communities, and supports them to take action for a better world.

GCE Theatre of the Oppressed Programme

Our TOTO Drama Group explores social justice issues in the NEIC through participatory drama workshops and performances. Our first live performance took place in December 2024 in the Dublin Adult Learning Centre, using Forum Theatre methods to bring the audience into the show.

GCE and Heathy Communities Project

This year LYCS is partnering with the Dublin City Community Coop’s Healthy Food Made Easy course, bringing a GCE element to the cooking and nutrition through participatory activities.
