The BallyMacSherriff Halloween Festival was piloted in 2016 and continues in 2017. It was the culmination of 3 months’ work with local residents and community groups in Sean McDermott Street, Sheriff Street and Ballybough. The event was a great success and we look forward to Halloween 2017.

 

LYCS was an active participant in the organising the first community led Halloween festival with children, teenagers and adults taking part.

 

Young people from our Youth Work Programme participated in a six week Health & Safety Environmental Programme which included:

• Interagency Football Tournament

• Workshops with An Garda Siochana & Dublin Fire Brigade on the safety risks of lighting bonfires

• Trip to Belfast to visit RADAR which provides educational workshops for young people on drugs & alcohol. The group also visited a Protestant community to discuss how they now use recycled wood beacons instead of bonfires on 12th July.

 

Young people participated in a workshop with volunteers from The Abbey Theatre on how to use Halloween Make-Up and spent six weeks preparing for the drumming which led the parade from all the various communities.  

 

The Adult Programme Participants took part in special cooking classes where they made unique cakes for Halloween.

 

The children in our crèche spent many weeks making Halloween decorations and had a magician entertaining them before the Halloween parade.
