Our incredible Global Citizenship Education Drama Group took to the stage for their first fully fledged theatre production this week, and what a debut it was.
This original one-act play was devised using Newspaper Theatre, a technique from Agosto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed. Inspired by James Joyce’s Ulysses, two seagulls travel across Dublin, taking a bird-eye view of the issues facing modern Ireland and the wider world. Each scene was created in response to the different environmental, equality and social justice issues that the performers workshopped in their drama sessions.
This play is the second production from the LYCS Global Citizenship Education Drama Programme, and was created through the hard work of Orla Devlin and the LYCS team, the team at Dublin Adult Learning Centre (DALC), and the fantastic performers (listed below).
The performance took place in front of a full house of local people, services and representatives, and was a huge success.
“This is the work of sustainable and organic community development at its best.” – Máire O’Higgins, Assistant Principal and Chaplain in Larkin Community College, Abbey Theatre Board Member.
